In their second game of the tournament, MS Dhoni-led Chennai beat Lucknow by 12 runs to register their first victory of the Indian T20 League 2023 season. Dhoni and company outplayed Lucknow in all departments and clinched victory in a tricky run-chase.

Ruturaj Gaikwad and Moeen Ali shone brightly in Chennai’s victory as they laid a solid platform for a big score. England spinner Moeen Ali, later, clinched four important wickets and derailed the run chase of Lucknow.

Earlier, after winning the toss, Lucknow called Chennai to bat first on their home ground. Chennai utilized the opportunity and hammered a massive total of 217/7 in 20 overs. Star batter Ruturaj Gaikwad, once again, gave them a flying start as he along with Devon Conway added 110 runs in nine overs.

Gaikwad, in his innings, scored 57 runs off 31 balls with the help of four sixes and three boundaries. He is now the leading run-scorer in the tournament and has an orange cap as well. Meanwhile, speaking on the same, Gaikwad said that he is not looking at an orange cap but is focused on helping Chennai win matches.

“To be honest I’m not looking at an orange cap or anything, just want to contribute to our team. We didn’t have a good season last year and giving a start is the main priority for Conway and me and thankfully it has been happening since the last two games. Hopefully, I’ll continue and try and stay as consistent,” said Ruturaj Gaikwad.

“We exactly know each other strengths”, says Gaikwad on Devon Conway

Gaikwad, further, spoke about his chemistry with Devon Conway. He said,

“I think me and Dev going well because we exactly know which bowler to target and who we’ll target. We generally do not speak about it but we get to know that left-arm spinners bowling Dave is gonna take him off. Off-spinner bowling, I will take him. So, we exactly know what each other strengths are. I think this is what has been working even the last season and hopefully, it worked today as well.”

Meanwhile, fans have react to Ruturaj Gaikwad’s comments on the orange camp and, hilariously, called him a liar. A Twitter user said, “Ye to kehne ki baat hai.”
