The last-16 round in the Champions League started with two big matches. Lionel Messi's PSG suffered a 0-1 defeat against Bayern Munich while AC Milan beat Tottenham by a margin of 1-0. Meanwhile, it is reported that Messi and Neymar led the PSG’s players apologizing to the club’s ultras after their disappointing performance.
Bayern Munich showed the best game from the beginning against PSG, but both teams could not score any goal till the first half. Alphonso Davies was then brought on as a replacement for Joa Cancelo and he assisted the goal against his old team as soon as he entered the field. Kingsley Coman scored the only goal of the match, assisted by Davies.
The Paris-raised Coman, who PSG sold to Juventus when he was 18, held his hands up to show he wasn't celebrating scoring against his former club.
“It’s the city where I was born and raised so it was difficult to celebrate here,” Coman said. “Given our performance, we could have done more, but in the end, it was a bit difficult so we’re satisfied with the win.”
We did everything, we worked night and day: Kylian Mbappe
Returning from injury, PSG’s star footballer Kylian Mbappe tried to bring his team back into the match by scoring a goal, but his goal was disallowed on VAR review. He talked about the match and said,
“It was difficult, unpredictable. I wasn’t supposed to play but I wanted to play and help my mates. We did everything, we worked night and day to get me some game time, I wanted to (start the game). But sometimes you have to be satisfied with what you can do, and that’s all I could do." Mbappe said.
Paris Saint-Germain's team full of star players like Messi, Neymar, and Mbappe may have faced defeat in this match, but this team has done well in the tournament and there will not be too many problems for PSG going forward. The return leg is on March 8. PSG was eliminated by Real Madrid in the last 16 last season.
