Only a few days are left before the start of the 16th edition of the Indian T20 League. This biggest tournament of franchise cricket is going to start on 31st March. All the teams have started preparations for the tournament which will last for 52 days. All the teams have also announced their captains for the league except the Kolkata-based franchise, who are still in a state of confusion as their regular captain Shreyas Iyer seems to be out of this 16th season due to a back injury.

The team is still looking for a new captain to replace him for this season. For this, the franchise have announced a grand function in which they will announce their new captain for the league. Bollywood superstar and Kolkata's co-owner Shah Rukh Khan will also be attending the function. However, some interesting names are in contention to replace Iyer as the skipper.

Nitish Rana's name was also included in the list

Many fans and cricket experts are expecting that their star left-hander Nitish Rana can be a great captaincy option in the team, along with Bangladesh's great allrounder Shakib Al Hasan. New Zealand captain Tim Southee will also be in the race. But in the meantime, there are two names that can be heard in the race that are very surprising.

Indian team's star all-rounder Shardul Thakur and West Indies veteran spinner Sunil Narine are also included in the list and are leading the race as well. In the recently concluded International League in UAE, Narine was the captain of the Kolkata franchise team Abu Dhabi Knight Riders. Although there he was able to win only one match. However, the name will be disclosed in the grand function which is set to take place on March 30.

"Within a day or two, Kolkata are set to make the announcement of their new captain in a grand function with their owner, Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan and an overseas pop star set to light up the occasion," a source close to the developments told TOI.
