LPL 2023: 3 major changes B-Love Kandy need to make to start winning

The fourth season of the ongoing LPL 2023 (Lanka Premier League) is in full swing. The tournament started on July 30, it has already played five games. Each team has played two games in the first phase of the Colombo leg. After a two-day break on August 2 and 3, the tournament will resume in Pallekele on the 4th. Meanwhile, B-Love Kandy is the only team that is yet to win a game.

In both games (against Colombo Stars and Galle Titans), the common problem for the team was their batting. After playing for 37.1 overs in the tournament, they managed only 130/8 and 97 all-out respectively. As the teams will be traveling and recuperating before the Pallekele, there are improvements that the Wanindu Hasaranga-led side can make.

Three changes B-Love Kandy can make to stage a comeback in LPL 2023

1. Fakhar Zaman 

The Pakistani opening batter has signed with Vancouver Knights and B-Love Kandy. Despite both leagues going on simultaneously (only at this point), Zaman can join the Sri Lankan franchise. However, that could only happen if the Knights lose badly to Toronto Nationals.

This will mean that the former champions would miss out on the playoff spot. Meanwhile, this change might still not happen immediately as Knight vs Nationals will be played on August 3 post-midnight (as per IST). On the other hand, Kandy will be playing on August 4 against Dambulla Aura.

2. Mohammad Haris

The recently-crowned Emerging Asia Cup 2023 winner is yet to play a game this season. He is a hard-hitting batter who is made for the shorter format of the game. Apparently, he is also part of the Surrey Jaguars in Canada.

The Canadian side is all set to play the playoffs as they are currently ranked number two with no league games left for them. If the team goes all the way, Kandy might have to wait a bit more for his services in the midst of having fragile batting.

3. Dushmantha Chameera

The veteran Sri Lanka player can replace Pakistan international Mohammad Hasnain. This also opens one overseas slot in both the batting and bowling departments. Also, Hasnain hasn't been that effective which leads to the team winning the game. Chameera, with his experience in these conditions, can be tried.
