Indian's leading fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has been ruled out of the upcoming three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka. The Indian Cricket Board sources said that they do not want to rush Bumrah's return. He has not reached Guwahati with the team for the first ODI. The first match of the three-match ODI series between India and Sri Lanka will be played on Tuesday.

Earlier, Bumrah was included in the ODI squad by the cricket board on the recommendation of the All India Selection Committee on 29 December. The official cricket board of India in its media release said, "The All India Senior Selection Committee has included fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah for the upcoming three ODI series against Sri Lanka."

When will Bumrah make a comeback in international cricket?

Bumrah is away from cricket action since September 2022 and he remained out of 20 -20 World Cup due to back injury. Bumrah's absence from India's squads in these major tournaments was deemed as one of the biggest reasons behind the team's failure to go the distance in these tournaments. Bumrah made a brief return during a T20I series against Australia at home playing in two of the three matches before being ruled out again.

The board further said, 'The fast bowler is undergoing rehab and has been declared fit by the NCA. He will join the Indian team soon.’ According to the report of Cricbuzz, it has now come to light that Bumrah will not play in the ODI series. This recommendation has come from the NCA staff. This decision has been taken because India has to take part in the series against Australia and the World Cup ahead. There has been talk with BCCI in this regard or not, but it could not be confirmed.

However, the official Board is yet to confirm whether Bumrah has been ruled out of the entire 3-match series. Meanwhile, the three ODIs between India and Sri Lanka will be played on January 10 (Guwahati), January 12 (Kolkata), and January 15 (Thiruvananthapuram).
