The Mumbai-based franchise created history on Sunday, March 26, 2023, at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai as they became the first team to win the Women’s T20 League by beating the Delhi-based franchise by 7 wickets in the final match. Earlier, Delhi put up an authoritative performance as Mumbai were humbled by 9 wickets at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai less than a week ago but they lost against them in the grandest stage of the league.

Talking about the match, Delhi won the toss and elected to bat first. However, their decision didn’t prove right as they lost their first two wickets on the score of just 12 runs. Issy Wong dented the top order as she dismissed Shafali Verma, Alice Capsey, and Jemimah Rodrigues in quick succession. However, Delhi suffered a huge blow when they lost skipper Meg Lanning as she got run out in 12th over which completely changed the game.

Just when it looked like it was all over for Delhi, the unlikely pair of Radha and Shikha added vital runs with attacking intent as both stitched a 52-run stand from just 24 balls and helped the team to achieve a respectable total of 131 runs. Wong and Hayley Matthews picked  3 wickets each for their team while Amelia Kerr was also able to take 2 wickets.

Brilliant all-round performance by Mumbai

Chasing the target, Yastika Bhatia got out in the second over, while fellow opener Hayley Matthews was also out during the power play. Throughout the early half of the innings, Delhi's bowlers held the lines extremely tight, preventing Mumbai from making a comeback. Yet, Harmanpreet Kaur and Nat Sciver-Brunt's experience was exactly what was required. They withstood the early pressure while maintaining their wickets.

As they could take their time while pursuing a minor target, Harmanpreet played a very calm innings. However, she got run-out at a crucial stage but Sciver-Brunt maintained her form from the elimination round, scoring a critical fifty, and Kerr also made a late appearance and led the team to victory.
