Pakistan captain Babar Azam has created history in the first match of the Asia Cup 2023. He became the fastest batter to complete 19 ODI hundreds in the history of the format. He completed this feat against Nepal at the Multan Cricket Stadium in Multan.

The skipper has always been the crisis man for Pakistan, the Pakistani openers were sent early to the dugouts by Nepal bowlers. He played a staggering innings and bailed his team out of trouble. The 2  8-year-old batter slammed his 8th fifty-plus score this year in 12 innings that he has played.

Babar Azam and Iftikhar Ahmed shine for Pakistan 

Babar Azam once again stepped up when his team needed him the most. He broke the former South African batter Hashim Amla's record who achieved this feat in 104 innings. Batting was difficult in Multan and Nepal had made early breakthroughs to leave Pakistan in a difficult position.

The 28-year-old batter first stitched an 86-run partnership with Mohammad Rizwan who scored 44 runs before returning to the pavilion. He batted with a strike rate of around 90 and smashed 10 fours. He took just 37 balls to move from 51 to 100. Once he reached his hundred, he went into the T20 mode and smashed 51 off the next 22 balls.

He and Iftikhar Ahmed, who smashed an unbeaten 109 runs off 71 balls, added 214 runs off 131 balls in a fifth-wicket partnership. Babar's 151-run knock is the second-highest individual score by a Pakistan captain in ODI cricket. With the courtesy of their partnership the Asian Giants scored 342/6.

His partner Iftikhar added, at the mid-match conference, "He's a great player, world No. 1, playing with him is awesome. We talked about getting ones and twos and getting boundaries when possible. (On the pitch) When I came in, the ball was gripping and coming off without pace. As I played, the wicket got better."

With the century fans on Twitter reacted to it. They praised the right-hander for his brilliant batting display and lauded him for standing tall in pressure.
