Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Gujarat Titans (GT) are going to compete in Qualifier 1 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Tuesday, May 23. Both the teams have faced each other three times in the history of IPL, in which the GT have won all three matches. However, this time, CSK will try to change history by defeating them on the bigger platform.
Meanwhile, ahead of the clash, GT skipper Hardik Pandya talked about his equation with CSK captain MS Dhoni. The Gujarat captain talked about Dhoni and said that the former Indian captain has played an important role in whatever he has achieved today. He even said that one needs to be a proper devil to hate someone like Dhoni.
"I'll always be a Mahendra Singh Dhoni fan and for so many fans out there and so many cricket lovers. You need to be a proper devil to hate Mahendra Singh Dhoni. A lot of people think Mahi is serious and all that. For me, I crack jokes and I don't see him as a Mahendra Singh Dhoni. Obviously, I've learned a lot of things from him, a lot of positive things, which I've learned from him just while watching, not even much talking," Pandya was quoted as saying by Hindustan Times.
Will GT continue its dominance on CSK?
The Hardik-led team have played with a closer time interval between two games, playing a nighttime encounter in Jaipur on Friday, returning home on a Saturday, and taking part in the afternoon match on a Sunday against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) but they finished as the table toppers with 20 points in 14 matches.
On the other hand, CSK also impressed a lot as they have moved to the exact opposite position after placing second in the table after the league stage last year when they were second last in the points table. They are vying for their fifth championship, and a victory would send any of them straight to the championship game. A defeat, however, will allow the losing team another opportunity to maintain their chances of winning the trophy.
