The 63rd match of the Indian Premier League 2023 was played between Mumbai Indians (MI) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Stadium in Lucknow on Tuesday, May 16. LSG continued their winning run against MI as they defeated them for the 3rd time in IPL history by 5 runs.

Talking about the match, MI skipper Rohit Sharma opted to bowl first after winning the toss and the decision proved right as their speedster provided a great start to the team by dismissing 2 batters in the 3rd over of the first innings. However, LSG suffered a huge blow, when they lost their destructive opener Quinton de Kock on the very first delivery after the mandatory powerplay by the veteran leg spinner Piyush Chawla.

But later, skipper Krunal Pandya led from the front and steadied the ship with Marcus Stoinis as they both stitched an 82-run stand for the 4th wicket. However, Krunal wasnโ€™t looking well while running between the wickets and eventually got retired hurt after the 16th over on the score of 49 runs. But it was Stoinis at the end, who just tore into MI's attack. He started with a 24-run over off Chris Jordan and despite getting deceived a couple of times, he managed to hit 7 sixes and all crisp and clean hits and helped the team to achieve a brilliant target of 177 runs.

Brilliant death bowling by LSG

Chasing the target, MI's openers got them off to a rollicking start in the run chase, but LSG bowlers pull things back in emphatic style. Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan added 90 runs for the opening wicket, but once Rohit departed, the momentum got back in LSG's favour.

Kishan notched up a scintillating fifty, however, once he was dismissed, LSG grabbed back the momentum even further. Suryakumar Yadav and Nehal Wadhera failed to get going, and although Tim David hit a few lusty blows, Lucknow's death bowling was impressive enough to strangle them eventually.
