Four-time champions Chennai beat Lucknow by 12 runs in their first home game of the season on Monday. Chennai, on the back of Ruturaj Gaikwad and Moeen Ali’s performance, registered their first victory of the season. Gaikwad, once again, scored a half-century as he hammered 57 runs in 31 balls.

On the other hand, Moeen Ali clinched four wickets to derail the run chase of Lucknow. He dismissed dangerous players like Nicholas Pooran and Kyle Mayers.

Meanwhile, the game also witnessed a massive reunion as some former and current players of Chennai were present on the ground. Players like Robin Uthappa, Suresh Raina, Ambati Rayudu, Ravindra Jadeja, and MS Dhoni met each other after the game and shared a nostalgic moment. MS Dhoni and Chennai were back playing at Chepauk after 1427 days as their last game at the venue was against Mumbai, on May 7, 2019.

Apart from this, Chennai skipper MS Dhoni also met the family of Lucknow spinner Krishnappa Gowtham. Notably, Gowtham has been a part of Chennai’s squad in the previous season. Meanwhile, Dhoni met his family and had a special time with his daughter. His interaction was caught on camera and went viral on social media.

“They’ll be playing under a new captain”, MS Dhoni warns players

After the game against Lucknow, Chennai skipper MS Dhoni uniquely bashed his bowlers. The 41-year-old wicketkeeper-batter said that bowlers need to give fewer extra runs or else they will play under a new skipper. In the post-match presentation ceremony, he said,

“They’ll have to bowl no balls and fewer wides. We are bowling too many extra deliveries and need to cut them out otherwise they’ll be playing under a new captain.”

Notably, Chennai bowlers bowled 13 wides and three no balls in the game against Lucknow and it could have led to their defeat if the target was less. Dhoni also spoke about Chepauk’s pitch as he was surprised by its behavior.

“I thought it will be much slower. It was a wicket where you could score runs but overall, it got a bit slower. We’ll have to see how it plays over the next six games at home but hopefully, we can score here.”
