The former legendary Pakistani pacer Shoaib Akhtar was seen engaging in multiple friendly banter with the former Indian opener Virender Sehwag, who is a smart character known for never holding back. Nobody can deny the animosity between India and Pakistan, and the pleasant banter between the two players from the two nearby countries only serves to spice up the rivalry.
Even when tensions may have been high when one of the world's most destructive batters and one of the world's fastest pacers faced off, Sehwag and Akhtar enjoy a close friendship off the pitch. Sehwag recently talked about his relationship with Akhtar on and off the field. He also recalled how Akhtar once made fun of his hair.
"You guys indulge in a lot of banter. Is there any friendship under this banter?" Sehwag was asked on the 'Breakfast With Champions' show on YouTube.
"Where there is love, there is banter or where there is friendship. With Shoaib Akhtar, I have had a deep friendship since 2003-04. We have gone there twice, they have come twice. There's friendship and we pull each other's leg too. He made a statement. I have more notes than the number of hair strands Virender Sehwag has on his head. Now My hair strands are more than your notes. That tagline would be cool for 'Breakfast With Champions'," Sehwag was quoted as saying by NDTV Sports.
Sehwag expressed his disappointment with Gujarat Titans
Sehwag also talked about the IPL 2023 final where Chennai Super Kings (CSK) defeated Gujarat Titans (GT) to lift the title 5 times. He was disappointed when Mohit Sharma was bowling the last over very well but was interrupted by GT skipper Hardik Pandya who broke his rhythm.
"When someone is bowling well and is delivering with yorkers, why will you go and have a word with him? He knows that the batter needs 10 from 2 and that he needs to stick with the Yorkers. Then why will you waste his time? Had Mohit been hit for runs, then he could have gone and had a word, but when the bowler is doing his job you want to get done with the over quickly.” Sehwag said
"It also could be that the captain might have come with a concern about whether the bowler would want any changes in the field for the last two balls. But still, if I would have been there, I wouldn't have disturbed him," he added.
