The Indian Cricket Board reappointed Chetan Sharma as chairman of selectors on Saturday, and also announced four names for the Senior Men's National Selection Committee. Shiv Sundar Das, Subroto Banerjee, Salil Ankola, and Sridharan Sharath will also be on the panel, with Chetan Sharma being recommended for the position of the chief selector.

The criteria for those interested in applying for the positions were detailed in a release issued by the country’s highest governing body of cricket.

“Should have played a minimum of 7 Test matches or 30 First Class matches, or 10 ODI and 20 First Class matches,” the release said.

"The Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) comprising Ms. Sulakshana Naik, Mr. Ashok Malhotra, and Mr. Jatin Paranjape undertook an extensive process for selecting members of the All-India Senior Selection Committee. The Board received around 600 applications following its advertisement for the five posts issued on its official website on 18th November 2022," Indian Cricket Board statement said

"Upon due deliberation and careful consideration, the CAC shortlisted 11 individuals for personal interviews. Based on the interviews, the Committee has recommended the following candidates for the Senior Men's National Selection Committee," it added.

India's bad performance in 2022

Earlier, in November, the Cricket Board called for applicants for the new selection committee following India’s performance in the 20-20 World Cup in Australia, where the Men in Blue were eliminated in the semifinals after a ten-wicket loss to England. Last year, India also faced a disappointing final four-stage exit from the Asia Cup in August-September, as well as a 2-1 loss to Bangladesh in the ODI series in December.

Ever since Rohit Sharma joined hands with Rahul Dravid as the new captain and coach respectively, the results were not up to the mark. Despite winning bilateral at home and away, India's streak of producing unforgettable moments on the field went missing in 2022.

India may have won 46 out of 71 matches, 4 out of 7 Tests, and 14 out of 24 ODIs, but 'the spark' was missing as India failed to flourish on the big stage.
