The ODI World Cup jumped back to action with Australia and the Netherlands clashing in Delhi on Wednesday, October 25. The Aussie men won the toss and elected to bat first. The decision resulted in favour of the Kangaroos as they put up a world-class batting display at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, scoring 399 runs for the loss of eight wickets in their 50 overs.
The batting trio of David Warner, Steve Smith and Marnus Labuschagne formed the crux of the brilliant batting display. While Warner scored a hundred, recording 104 off 93 balls featuring 11 fours and three sixes, the other two had to contend with fifties. Smith smashed 71 off 68, including nine fours and a six. At the same time, Labuschagne added 62 off 47, helped by seven fours and two sixes.
However, the star of the Aussie innings was Glenn Maxwell, who smashed the fastest century in a World Cup game. The star all-rounder completed his century in just 40 deliveries while he recorded a total of 106 off 44. His knock featured nine fours and eight sixes. Logan van Beek put in a decent shift with the ball, claiming four wickets for 74 runs in ten overs.
The Netherlands could only manage 90 runs before succumbing to the Aussies
The Netherlands could only score 90 runs before they were bowled out by the Australian bowling attack. Opening batter Vikramjit Singh with a run-a-ball 25 remained their highest score and was the only batter to surpass the 15-run mark.
Adam Zampa was the star with the ball for the Kangaroos, returning figures of 4/8 in three overs. Mitchell Marsh scalped two whereas the pace trio of Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood and skipper Pat Cummins returned with one wicket apiece.
With the win, the men from down under have reached the fourth spot in the standing with six points from five games, courtesy of three wins and two losses. The hosts, Team India, still lead the standings with a perfect record, yielding them 10 points from five wins in five games.
