'Badhia batting kia hain'- Fans react as Ibrahim Zadran becomes first Afghanistan batter to score hundred in ODI World Cup 2023 clash against Australia

Afghanistan vs Australia in the ODI World Cup 2023, at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. Afghanistan are in contention to qualify for the semi-final. Opener Ibrahim Zadran created history against the Aussies as the batter became the first Afghan player to score a hundred in the mega tournament, previously it was 96 runs highest by Samiullah Shinwari who scored it against Scotland in the 2015 edition.

In a must-win game against the Aussies, the Afghan won the toss and elected to bat first. Hashmatullah Shahidi's side has been in good form they have won 4 games so far in the tournament. Zadran and Rahmanullah Gurbaz started the innings well for their side, but a loose shot from the latter. But Zadran and Rahmat Shah stitched an 83-run partnership.

Zadran previously became the fastest batter from Afghanistan to complete 1,000 career runs in ODIs during a game against Pakistan. He took 131 balls to reach the hundred-run mark. Mitchell Starc whose form in the current tournament has been the most expensive bowler for the five-time champions. 

Ibrahim Zadran creates a record

Zadran was brilliant in his innings as he built the partnership and achieved the milestone. The 21-year-old batter was unbeaten till the end, with 129 runs off 143 deliveries hitting 8 fours and 3 sixes. He and Rashid Khan scored 96 runs in the last 10 overs. The latter scored 35 runs off 18 balls and smacked 16 runs to Starc in the final over of the innings. 

After the century in the mid-innings, Zadran said, "I am feeling great to score Afghanistan's maiden hundred in (World Cup). I worked hard for this tournament, I missed a hundred against Pakistan but made it today. I was talking to my coaching staff and I told them I have a feeling I will get a hundred in next three matches. Wicket is looking good, ball is coming so well. If we had made good partnerships and kept wickets in hand, we would have scored 330."
