India beat South Africa by 243 runs in the ODI World Cup 2023, at Eden Gardens, Kolkata. Team India's domination in the tournament continues as the team has now won 8 matches in a row in the mega event so far and is at the top of the table with 16 points. They were the first team to qualify for the semi-final after their win against Sri Lanka. Now they have cemented their first position. 

India won the toss and elected to bat first. Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill gave the side another fiery start. Though Rohit played a more aggressive style of cricket and Gill anchored the innings. They stitched in 62 runs as the skipper was back to the pavilion. Virat Kohli scored his 49th century in the game and Shreyas Iyer built a partnership with him and scored another half-century. 

Kohli was unbeaten till the end and some valuable runs toward the end from Suryakumar Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja made sure India scored past 300 runs on a comparatively slower wicket in this venue. The Men in Blue have shown their complete dominance over their opponents in the World Cup. 

India outclass South Africa

Indian openers gave them another good start for the two-time world champions. India scored 100 runs within 12 overs. Kohli achieved another milestone as he scored his 49th ODI century on his birthday and tied Sachin Tendulkar's ODI century record. He scored 101 runs off 121 balls and Iyer gave good support to him and stitched a 134-run partnership for the third wicket. The latter was dismissed on 77 runs off 87 deliveries. Surya scored some 22 runs at the end and attacked the spinners. Ravindra Jadeja scored 29 off 15 balls at the end which helped India score 326 runs. 

In response, the Proteas lost their star batter Quinton de Kock early as he was bowled by Mohammed Siraj. Then domination of the India's bowling attack started. Mohammed Shami who has been exceptional in the tournament so far picked two important wickets, for Rassie van der Dussen and Aiden Markram. Jadeja picked a fifer and spun a web around the Protea batters. Kuldeep picked two wickets and they were bowled out for 83 runs.
