Virat Kohli and Shubman Gill stitched a partnership of 189 runs before the latter was dismissed by Dilshan Madushanka, on his very next over he picked up the wicket of the former India skipper as well.

India vs Sri Lanka in ODI World Cup 2023, is currently underway at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. The Men in Blue have been in sensational form as they are yet to lose a match in the tournament, they have won six out of their six matches in the event so far and if they win this match they would be the first team to qualify for the semi-final. 

Batting first Team India lost their skipper Rohit Sharma in the very first over. After that, Virat Kohli and Shubman Gill stitched a partnership of 189 runs before the latter was dismissed by Dilshan Madushanka, on his very next over he picked up the wicket of the former India skipper as well. Both the batters were well set and were eyeing for their hundreds but they missed it. 

Kohli was looking in great touch after his catch was dropped by Dushmantha Chameera on his own bowling. But after that, the 34-year-old batter scored all around the park. He has been eyeing for the 49th ODI century and ties with great Sachin Tendulkar's record. Gill was eyeing for his first ODI World Cup hundred but he was also sent back to the pavilion by Madushanka. He has been the pick of the bowlers for the Islanders. 

Kohil and Gill miss hundreds

Both the batters were looking in sensational touch against the 1996 champions. They were smacking them all around the park. Gill was the first to be dismissed as he tried to play an uppercut on a slower bouncer and ended up edging it to the wicketkeeper on 92 runs. The batter is the No.2 ODI batter in the Men's ranking and is just two points away from being the No.1. The batter missed some of the first game due to dengue.  

Kohli who has been India's crisis man once again stepped up when the skipper was dismissed in the first over. He built the innings and was eyeing the 49th ton as well, but a slower ball deceived him and he ended up giving a catch on 88 runs off 94 deliveries, the whole crowd was stunned along with the former skipper as he was back to the dugout.
