Rohit Sharma's cheeky reply

Team India has been in red-hot form in the ongoing ODI World Cup 2023. They are currently the only undefeated side in the mega event. Rohit Sharma's side has won six out of their six matches in the tournament as they are currently facing Sri Lanka at the Wankhede Stadium. They are just one win away from sealing a semi-final spot. Rohit has been the leading run-scorer for his side.

The Men in Blue skipper has given the best start early on in the innings 398 runs in six matches at an average of 66.33, at a strike-rate of 119.16. The batter has scored the most number of World Cup centuries and broke the record of great batter Sachin Tendulkar who had six centuries. The batter also broke the record of most international sixes Chris Gayle and now has 564 sixes beside his name.

The 36-year-old batter played a brilliant knock of 87 runs on a difficult wicket of Lucknow against defending champions England. In terms of his leadership, he has made the correct bowling changes as well. Ahead of the match, he was asked about his selfless approach towards his batting. Rohit replied in a cheeky way.

I have to spin it well, play well and keep the team in a good situation: Rohit Sharma

The Mumbai-born batter was asked, "Your selfless approach is being appreciated in this World Cup, no milestones, you are just looking to hit well. You also have the highest runs in power play. Kuch suggestions aise aaye hai former cricketers se ki thoda selfish ho jayenge team ke liye to accha rahega (there have been some suggestions from former cricketers that it will be better if you become a little selfish. You will last longer)."

The batter replied, "Yes. I'm enjoying my batting. But obviously, keeping the situation of the team in mind, it's not like I just have to go and spin the bat. I have to spin it well, play well and keep the team in a good situation. This is my mindset. When I open, the scoreboard starts from zero. So as a batsman I have to think, I have to set the tone for the game. So, I have that advantage or you can call it a benefit that I am starting the batting and there is no pressure of wickets because everything is 0-0, so when you have to start like that, you can be fearless and you can play the way you want to play but then last game we were put under pressure a little bit in the power play."
