Australia is restricted to 199 runs in Chennai in the ODI World Cup 2023 match by the Indian bowlers. The collective efforts from the Indian bowlers meant that Australia ended up scoring only 199 runs in their first innings. Indian bowlers were the exception with the ball and created a lot of pressure on the Australian batters. It was a great day with the ball for India.

Australia won the toss and elected to bat first in Chennai. Mitchell Marsh was undone early by Jasprit Bumrah as Virat Kohli claimed a sensational catch. David Warner and Steve Smith steadied the ship for Australia and framed a good partnership for the second wicket. Kuldeep Yadav came into the attack and dismissed the dangerous David Warner.

What followed was Ravindra Jadeja's show with the ball. The left-arm orthodox spinner first claimed the wicket of Steve Smith with a peach of a delivery. The experienced All-rounder then claimed the wickets of Marnus Labuschagne and Alex Carey in quick succession and reduced Australia to 119/5 at one stage. The spinners did a great job for India.

Indian bowlers shine and restrict Australia to a below-par total

Kuldeep Yadav got rid of Glenn Maxwell with an excellent delivery. Ravichandran Ashwin dismissed Cameron Green. But Australia refused to give up. From 140/7 at one stage, Australia ended up scoring 199 runs. The Australian tailenders scored well by applying themselves. Starc scored 28 runs in 35 balls, which was very handy for the visiting side. Pat Cummins scored 15 runs in 24 balls. Adam Zampa gave a bit of support to Starc.

For India, all the bowlers had a very good day. Bumrah and Siraj were exceptional with the new ball. Though Hardik was a bit expensive, the spin trio wreaked havoc in the middle. The trio of Ashwin, Jadeja, and Kuldeep was exceptional with the ball. Jadeja claimed 3 wickets, and Bumrah and Kuldeep claimed 2 wickets each. Ashwin, Hardik, and Siraj claimed a wicket each and helped India to dismiss Australia to a below-par total.
