Team India is set to be without the services of Shubman Gill for a while now. The young Indian opener is yet to recover in time for the next two Indian games during ODI World Cup 2023.

As per reports, Yashasvi Jaiswal or Ruturaj Gaikwad could be called as cover for Shubman Gill. The two players were recently seen playing for India during the 2023 Asian Games held in China. The Indian men’s cricket team won the gold medal after the final was washed out due to rain.

Rohit Sharma’s Indian team is set to face Afghanistan on Wednesday. The game will be played in New Delhi. Then the focus will shift to Ahmedabad as India will take on Pakistan on Saturday 14th of October.

Indian management set to add cover for Shubman Gill

As per reports doing the rounds, Yashasvi Jaiswal or Ruturaj Gaikwad could be given call-ups. Either of the two youngsters could be drafted in for Shubman Gill in a desperate move from the Indian team management.

Shubman Gill has been battling dengue for the last few days and missed the World Cup 2023 opener versus Australia. The batter has been put under the watch by the medical team over the last few days.

The 24-year-old was also hospitalized and later discharged but is being continuously monitored. Ishan Kishan is set to open with Rohit Sharma for the next two games on Wednesday and Saturday.

Yashasvi Jaiswal has made an amazing start to his international career since his debut. The young left-handed opener scored a century on his test debut. Jaiswal scored a T20I ton during the recent 2023 Asian Games match versus Nepal. This made him the youngest ever Indian to score a T20i ton.

Ruturaj Gaikwad was the skipper of the Indian team that won the gold medal. His form during the 2023 Asian Games was decent. The 26-year-old scored a masterful half-century in the game against Australia in Mohali.

Should either of them get called up as a back-up it is just a stop-gap measure. Once Gill is fit he is set to make his comeback into the playing XI for India. The game against Bangladesh on the 19th of October has been set for a likely Shubman Gill return.
