ODI World Cup semi-final scenarios

India has already qualified for the semi-final of the ODI World Cup 2023. They became the first team to qualify for the knockouts as the Men in Blue is currently the only unbeaten side in the tournament so far as they have won 8 out of 8 matches in the marquee event so far. Other than Rohit Sharma's side two other teams South Africa and Australia have qualified for the semi-final.

The fourth spot is left and three teams are fighting for the spot, New Zealand, Pakistan, and Afghanistan. The Kiwis started the tournament on a high note winning four games in the first then they lost four in a row, though their run rate is better than the other two teams and have the best chance to qualify for the knockouts. Pakistan are also knocking on the door as they will face defending champions England who did not have a good outing but have lost their last match against Netherlands.

Afghanistan will face South Africa they have lost a winning game against Australia when Glenn Maxwell scored a double hundred when they were struggling at 91/7 at one stage. Fans are hoping for an India vs Pakistan semi-final.

How can Pakistan meet India in the semi-final?

Firstly Pakistan must win the game and hope that New Zealand loses their final match against Sri Lanka if the Kiwis defeat Sri Lanka in 35 overs or less then Babar's side will need to defeat England by a margin of 225 runs or chase the target in 14 overs when batting second in order to face India.

If Kane Williamson's side wins by one run against the Islanders, Pakistan must win by 130 runs or more if they bat first, or they must chase the run in 28 overs or less. If both Pakistan and New Zealand lose, and Afghanistan wins against the Proteas, the Afghans will advance to the knockout stages.

There will be a venue change if India faces Pakistan the match will be at Eden Gardens, Kolkata.
