Virat Kohli has been in red-hot form in the ODI World Cup 2023. The former India skipper is the highest run-scorer for his side as the batter has scored 543 runs in 8 innings. He scored his 49th ODI century on his birthday at Eden Gardens, Kolkata against South Africa. After his century, former Pakistan skipper Mohammad Hafeez lashed the batter and called him selfish, he said Kohli did not think of the team but eyed only his personal achievement.
Hafeez was angry about the fact that Kohli was not thinking about the team as he took a single in the last over without hitting a boundary. In response, former English captain Michael Vaughan and former India pacer Venkatesh Prasad protested against the comments. After Hafeez's other cryptic comment, Vaughan trolled the batter, saying that Kohli had bowled the batter in the T20 World Cup 2012.
Team India is currently in exceptional form they became the first team to qualify for the semi-final of the tournament. They have won 8 out of 8 matches and are the only unbeaten side in the tournament so far. They face Netherlands in the final game on November 12 at Bengaluru.
Is this the reason you constantly have a pop at him: Michael Vaughan
Hafeez said, "I saw sense of selfishness in Virat Kohli's batting and this happened for the third time in this World Cup. In the 49th over, he was looking to take a single to reach his own hundred and he didn't put the team first." Hafeez then posted after Stokes innings, tweeting, "Saviour of the ship @benstokes38 Good under pressure anchoring the innings where required with aggressive intent to get Maximum runs for the team to win at the end. Sheer example to differentiate Selfish vs Selfless approach."
Vaughan then replied saying, "Great innings from Stokesy @MHafeez22 .. As was Virats on a difficult pitch in Kolkata against a better attack.." He further added, "Seems to me @MHafeez22 you were bowled by @imVkohli!!! Is this the reason you constantly have a pop at him."
