The star cricketer Afghanistan Rashid Khan has pledged support to his earthquake-ravaged homeland, vowing to donate his entire ODI World Cup match fees to aid the victims. This is not the first time the star pledged something like this. There have been multiple times when Rashid has taken a stand for his nation and the harmony of his country.

Earlier, a powerful 6.3 magnitude earthquake struck 40 kilometres west of Herat city, resulting in over 2,000 reported fatalities and 1,000 injuries. Despite being in India for the World Cup, Rashid took to social media to express solidarity with the affected Afghans. The 25-year-old leg spinner announced the launch of a fundraising campaign to further assist those impacted by the catastrophe. This compassionate gesture reflects Rashid Khan's commitment to standing by his people during times of crisis, showcasing the human side of the cricketing star beyond the sports arena.

"I learned with great sadness about the tragic consequences of the earthquake that struck the western provinces (Herat, Farah, and Badghis) of Afghanistan. I am donating all of my #CWC23 match fees to help the affected people. Soon, we will be launching a fundraising campaign to call upon those who can support the people in need," the legendary leg spinner wrote on Instagram and X.

Afghanistan to take on India on Wednesday

Afghanistan is set to face India at Delhi's Arun Jaitley Stadium in the ongoing ODI World Cup 2023. Both teams are scheduled to lock horns against each other on Wednesday, October 11. Afghanistan commenced their campaign against Bangladesh where the team had a very ordinary outing at Dharamshala. Hashmatullah Shahidi's led team suffered a six-wicket defeat in a lopsided encounter with the 'Bangla Tigers.'

Now, Afghanistan will be eager to stage a robust comeback, although overcoming a formidable opponent like India will be a challenging task. Rashid Khan, who has exhibited a slightly diminished form lately, is optimistic about a reversal of fortune, both personally and for the team, as they gear up for the upcoming clash against India.
