In the first semifinal of the ongoing ODI World Cup 2023, India faces New Zealand at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. After winning the toss, India skipper Rohit Sharma opted to bat first. His decision went well with the team, as India added 71 runs for the first wicket in just 8.2 overs. Skipper Rohit, in his inning, scored 47 runs off 29 balls with the help of four fours and as many sixes.
Rohit was dismissed by Tim Southee while trying to hit him for maximum. However, after his departure, Shubman Gill continued to hammer Kiwi bowlers. Gill, in his inning, scored 79 runs off 65 balls with the help of eight fours and three sixes before getting retired. Out of his three sixes, Gill smashed one into the dugout. His sheer batting prowess helped India keep the NRR provided by Rohit.

While facing ace Kiwi spinner Mitchell Santner Gill, Gill goes down the pitch and sends the ball soaring over the long off to the Indian dugout. Skipper Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav were seen finding the ball as Gill smashed a massive six. It's worth noting that Gill smashed his fourth fifty in the ongoing tournament.
Rohit Sharma calls out Shubman Gill after cramps
Star India batter Shubman Gill was looking in sublime touch with his 65-ball 79-run knock before getting retired. In the 23rd over of India's batting innings, Gill was looking uncomfortable while running between the wickets. Soon, Gill fell down and the medical team rushed out to check on him. Gill, who was having cramps due to excessive heat, tried to recover and continue his batting.
However, India skipper Rohit Sharma had some other plans as he sent a message to Gill with Prasidh Krishna. Krishna went and conveyed Rohit's message, after which Gill decided to retire. Keeping finals and match conditions in mind, Rohit didn't want to lose a batter at a crucial stage, and his decision paid off. After Gill's departure, Shreyas Iyer, along with Kohli, had a great time in the middle.
