Virat Kohli has been in sensational form in the ongoing ODI World Cup 2023. The batter has scored 442 runs in 7 innings. The batter is close to turning 35 as the batter’s birthday is on the very day India will face South Africa at the iconic Eden Gardens, Kolkata. The former India skipper is currently the highest run scorer for his side in the tournament.
The Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) has decided to distribute about 70,000 Kohli’s masks to the fans. They are trying to get some permission from the Cricket Governing Body, to celebrate the batter’s birthday. Ahead of the game Pakistan wicket-keeper batter Mohammad Rizwan, has wished that the former skipper should get his 49th ODI century on his birthday at Eden Gardens.
Kohli might have got his 49th hundred against Sri Lanka at the Wankhede Stadium. But the batter missed out as he was dismissed on 88 runs and the whole crowd was stunned along with Kohli himself.
I hope he can get his 49th ODI hundred on his birthday: Mohammad Rizwan
Rizwan said, "It is nice to know that his birthday is on the 5th of November. Wish him all the best and a happy birthday, though I don't celebrate mine and I don't believe in that. Wishing a great one to Virat. I hope he can get his 49th ODI hundred on his birthday. And I wish him that He could also get his 50th ODI century in this World Cup."
CAB president Snehasish Ganguly said, "We hope to get an approval from the ICC on this. We want to make the day special for Virat. We want every fan in the stadium wearing Kohli's masks as he walks in. We plan to distribute about 70,000 masks on that day. The Eden had a similar atmosphere when maestro Sachin Tendulkar played his 199th Test at the venue in November 2013."
India is currently playing Sri Lanka at the Wankhede Stadium. They are eyeing 350 plus total at Mumbai. Ravindra Jadeja and Mohammed Shami are currently at the crease.
