Virat Kohli achieves new milestones in ODI World Cup 2023 clash against Sri Lanka

Virat Kohli in his 88 runs inning broke several records as he became the fastest to score 8000 runs in Asia. He also completed 4000 international runs against Sri Lanka.

India vs Sri Lanka in ODI World Cup 2023 at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. During the game, former India skipper Virat Kohli achieved new milestones. The batter came out to bat when Indian skipper Rohit Sharma was out early on in the innings. Kohli who has been chasing records since he started playing cricket achieved new records at Mumbai, on Thursday.  

He went past the 1000-run mark in ODIs in a calendar year once again in the current year. This is the eighth time that Kohli scored 1000+ runs in a calendar year and surpassed Sachin Tendulkar's record as previously the greatest cricketer scored it seven times in his career. The 34-year-old batter has been in great form in the tournament as he has scored 442 runs in 7 innings so far and is the highest run-getter for his side in the World Cup. 

Team India is currently the only undefeated side in the tournament. Rohit Sharma's side have won all their six matches in the tournament so far and have posted a mammoth total of 357/8. The Men in Blue's win against Sri Lanka on Thursday will confirm their semi-final qualification in the World Cup. 

Kohli reaches new achievements

Kohli, in his 88 runs inning, broke several records as he became the fastest to score 8000 runs in Asia. He also completed 4000 international runs against Sri Lanka. The 34-year-old has scored the most fifty-plus scores as a non-opener. Kohli eyeing the 49th ODI century and tying with great Sachin Tendulkar's record but the batter has to wait for more time. 

The former skipper scored, 1000 runs in ODIs in 2023, 2019, 2018, 2017, 2014, 2013, 2012, and 2011. The Cricket Association of Bengal has decided to distribute about 70,000 Kohli’s masks to the fans on November 5th as it is the birthday of the modern-day great and India will face South Africa on the same day. 

The Men in Blue have posted a total of 357 runs at Wankhede and Sri Lanka are struggling at 3/4. With Mohammed Siraj and Jasprit Bumrah bowling at full pace.
