Viacom 18 recently surprised many cricket fans when it announced that the upcoming season the much-awaited Indian T20 League will be streamed free on the JioCinema app. Earlier they provided the live streams of FIFA World Cup 2022 which helped them to gain a lot of viewers in India.

However, many fans have raised questions about data consumption during the stream. A T20 match usually takes 3 hours to get finished, so some experts have said that it may require at least 2 GB of data for a 3-hour match.

“A total of 70 league matches and four playoff games will be played over 52 days. This means to watch all 74 matches on mobile or connected TV one would require data worth Rs 2,072, which may not be exactly cheap for a majority of the Indian users,” an industry expert was quoted as saying by exchange4media.

It will roughly require 0.5 GB: Jio's official

Explaining the data cost factor, a Jio official said, “We don’t expect all users to watch full Indian T20 League matches on the mobile phone. On average, people would watch less than an hour or so, for which roughly 0.5 GB is required. This much data is often available with most data plans of all the operators.”

Meanwhile, the Indian Cricket Board have announced the schedule for the upcoming season of the Indian T20 League. The tournament will kick off on March 31 and the first match of the 16th edition of the cash-rich league will be played between defending champion Hardik Pandya’s Gujarat and MS Dhoni’s Chennai.

It will begin five days after the final of the inaugural edition of the Women’s T20 League on March 26. The league phase comprises 70 matches which will be played from March 31 to May 21, spanning 12 cities. In addition to the ten regular venues Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Kolkata, Lucknow, Delhi, Ahmedabad, Jaipur, and Mohali, some matches will be played in Guwahati (Rajasthan’s second home), and Dharamsala (Punjab’s second home).
