In the fifth game of the ongoing Lankan Premier League 2023, Galle Titans and B-Love Kandy locked horns in Colombo. Ahead of the game, Kandy was looking for their first win after losing their first game against Colombo Strikers. On the other hand, the Titans, formerly knowns as Gladiators, had an ideal start in the tournament. Meanwhile, in the game, the Titans won the toss and elected to bat first.

They had a slow start as openers, Shevon Daniel and Lasith Croospulle were batting at a strike rate under 100. The first one to go was Lasith who managed 11 runs off 14 balls. Daniel managed 25 off 31 balls while Bhanuka Rajapaksa (4) also failed. At 60/3, they needed a partnership and a great recovery to compete in the game. The likes of Shakib Al Hasan and Tim Seifert put together 95 runs in just 8.3 overs.

The latter scored 74 off 39 balls including five sixes and as many fours. On the other hand, Hasan got 30 off 21 balls including two sixes. These innings helped the team reach 180/5.

B-Love Kandy had no answer to Galle Titans in the chase

In reply, Kandy's batting once again became a problem for the team. In the last, the team kept losing wickets in the 150-odd run chase. In this game too, the batting never looked like chasing the target. In fact, they batted worse than in the previous game. Kasun Rajitha removed the likes of Dinesh Chandimal and Kamindu Mendis.

Zimbabwe international Richard Ngarwa joined the party with the wicket of Angelo Mathews. Lahiro Samarakoon took his only wicket in the game in the form of Thanuka Dabare. Skipper Wanindu Hasaranga became the second victim of Ngarwa and was the fifth wicket to fall on 36 runs. Ashen Bandara (27) tried to stay at the crease. Apart from him, Isuru Udana (16) and Dabare (12) could reach the double-digit mark. In the end, Kandy was bowled out for 97 runs, losing the game by 83 runs.
