The Pakistan Super League (PSL) 9th edition has already started. In the 5th match of the tournament, Multan Sultans (MUL) defeated Islamabad United (ISL) by 5 wickets. Mohammad Rizwan won the toss and elected to field first. After being invited to bat first the United openers Colin Munro and Alex Hales went back to the pavilion early with a single digit score under their bag. They then stitched a partnership of 68 runs with the help of Agha Salman and Jordan Cox.

The latter was dismissed after playing a valuable knock of 41 runs. Salman scored a solid 52-run inning and after that, the wickets kept on falling and no other batter except the above-mentioned two were been able to cross the 20-run mark as they lost 7 wickets for just 44 runs and were bundled out for 144 runs.

Mohammad Ali and Abbas Afridi were the pick of the bowlers as the two speedsters picked 3 wickets each and shattered the top and middle order of the team which chased down 200 runs in their last game. The former was also economical giving runs under 5 per over. Leg-spinner Usama Mir picked two wickets along with David Willey who scalped one wicket.

Hendricks and Rizwan seals victory

In reply, Shadab Khan's side had the best possible start to defend a low score as they got the crucial wicket of Dawid Malan in the very first over with the English batter going back without troubling the scorers. But after that skipper Rizwan and Reeza Hendricks showed controlled aggression with the former scoring quickly he was back after playing a knock of 43 runs off 33 deliveries smashing 6 fours and 2 sixes and making the low-scoring run chase easy.

Hendricks slammed a fifty and helped his team through to the end of the run chase. Though skipper Shadab tried to pull back the match they were unsuccessful as runs got leaked from one end and they failed with the Proteas batter was out on 58 runs when 20 was needed from 14 balls. An almost run-a-ball 17 runs innings from Iftikhar Ahmed helped them to seal victory in the second last ball of the game.
