Gujarat Titans (GT) opener Shubman Gill is one of the top contenders to win the orange cap in the 16th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). He had a great start this season with a couple of half-centuries. GT are currently in action against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the 30th match of the league at the Bharat Ratna Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Stadium in Lucknow on Saturday, April 22.

GT skipper Hardik Pandya opted to bat first after winning the toss but the decision proved wrong as Gill couldn’t provide a great start to the innings and got out after scoring a two-ball duck in the second over. LSG’s star allrounder Krunal Pandya delivered a tossed-up ball that was drifting in, Gill used his feet and tried to chip it down the ground but only managed to get it off the toe-end of the bat and Ravi Bishnoi at long-off caught it safely.

Talking about GT’s innings, the batters looked in a lot of trouble as the pitch was very slow that didn’t let them open their hand to hit biggies. After losing Gill in the second over, Wriddhiman Saha and skipper Hardik steadied the ship and stitched a 68-run stand for the second wicket but they took 55 deliveries to build that partnership which affected their run rate a lot.

Due to this Saha lost his wicket as he tried to hit a six and once against Krunal provided a crucial breakthrough. The wicketkeeper-batter scored 47 runs off 37 balls which included 6 fours. Later, GT started losing wickets quickly but Hardik kept one end safe and scored 66 runs off 50 deliveries. During this responsible knock, he smashed 2 fours and 4 sixes and helped the team to achieve a fighting total of 135 runs after losing 6 wickets in 20 overs. Marcus Stoinis and Naveen-ul-Haq bowled brilliantly in the death overs and didn't let GT batters to reach the 150-run mark.
