The thrilling final match of the Indian Premier League 2023 between the four-time champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Gujarat Titans (GT) is set to take place at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday, May 28. The Men in Yellow will look to get their hands on the coveted trophy for the fifth time and equal the record of Mumbai Indians (MI).
Former legendary Indian cricketer and CSK skipper MS Dhoni will reportedly be playing the last IPL match of his career. However, there are still some speculations that he will continue to play in the next season as well. Meanwhile, auctioneer Richard Madley, who sold Dhoni in the bidding war in the inaugural season, tweeted a heart-touching post on Twitter and gave a big statement by saying that selling Dhoni was his career’s highlight.
"Selling #Dhoni in the first #IPL auction was a career highlight & meeting him was very special. He signed this for my son @harrymadley6. Good luck today," he tweeted along with a picture of Dhoni's autographs for his son.
Who will lift the trophy in the final?
GT met CSK in the first Qualifier match after dominating the points table with 20 points. They failed to meet a 173-run target, losing the game by a margin of 15 runs. GT defeated Mumbai Indians by 62 runs later in Qualifier 2 match to secure a spot in the IPL championship.
Regarding CSK, the men in yellow came in second in the standings following the league stage. They later defeated GT in Qualifier 1 to advance as the inaugural IPL 2023 champions. To win the IPL 2023 title, they must now once again outperform GT.
Dhoni has amassed 5,082 runs at an average of 39.09 and a strike rate of 135.96 in 217 innings across 249 IPL games so far. He has 24 half-centuries and a top score of 84*. He has scored runs at the seventh-highest rate in league history.
