Pakistan have lost their first warm-up match against New Zealand. They scored 345 runs in their first match with runs coming from the bat of skipper Babar Azam and wicket-keeper Mohammad Rizwan. The former scored 80 runs, while the wicket-keeper batter scored a century. But New Zealand chased down the target with seven overs to left. The spin department has been a problem for Pakistan due to their vice-captain Shahdab Khan's inconsistent performance.

Shadab stated that his team is ready for the much-awaited clash against the arch-rivals India on October 14. Saying that, "The food has been really tasty and the support staff (all South Africans) are worried that we end up increasing our fat percentage (laughs). Hope, we get the same love in Ahmedabad where we play India (laughs)."
Further, the leg-spinner said, "I admire Rohit Sharma a lot and among the leading batsmen in the world he is the most difficult to bowl to. Once he gets set he becomes very dangerous. Among the bowlers, since I am a leg-spinner, it will be Kuldeep Yadav given his recent form." In the Asia Cup four of his six wickets came against Nepal and he ended with an average of 40.83.
