India batter Shikhar Dhawan has been out of the Indian squad for a long period of time. He has not been picked for the 15-man squad in the World Cup 2023. Dhawan has been the man of big times when it comes to major tournaments for India. In the 2013 and 2017 Champions Trophy and the 2015 and 2019 editions of the Cricket World Cup, he amassed 1238 runs at an average of 65.15, including six centuries.

With more misery in his personal life, he was granted divorce by a Delhi Court, noting that the senior Indian cricketer was subject to cruelty and mental agony by his estranged wife Ayesha Mukherjee. Dhawan married Ayesha, who had two daughters from her first marriage, in October 2012. She had spoken about getting a divorce in 2021 in a social media post.

Family Court Judge Harish Kumar accepted Mr Dhawan's accusations against his wife after it stated that she was unable to prove it to be false. The southpaw said in his divorce petition that his wife made him a victim of mental cruelty. He finally got custody of his 10-year-old son Zorawar.

I failed because the final decision is the person's own: Shikhar Dhawan

In an interview, Dhawan stated, "I failed because the final decision is the person's own. I don't point fingers at others. I failed because I was not aware of that field. The things I talk about cricket today, I wouldn't have been aware of the same 20 years back. It comes with experience. Right now my divorce case is going on. Tomorrow, if I want to marry again, I will be much more wiser in that field. I'll know what kind of girl I need; someone whom I can spend my life with."

The court said, "He (Dhawan) for no fault of his own had been through immense agony and anguish of living separately from his own son for years. Even though the wife denied the allegation, submitting that though she genuinely wanted to live in India with him, yet she did not choose to contest the claim. The respondent, by conducting herself in the manner, has inflicted such cruelty, agony and trauma on him, that it was impossible for the petitioner to save the marriage."
