Ravindra Jadeja responded to Kapil Dev's claim that modern Indian players are arrogant because of money and the cash-rich Indian Premier League (IPL), saying that such claims only come out when India loses. Jadeja stated his opinion that athletes are committed to and focused on representing their nation.
The legendary Indian cricketer was blunt in his criticism of the Indian team's performance, particularly at major competitions. Kapil's criticism of the squad went viral after the Indian team lost the second ODI against the West Indies.
I didn't know when he said this. I don't search too many things on social media: Ravindra Jadeja
Sunil Gavaskar, the former India opener, said in an Indian newspaper that players like Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, and VVS Laxman would seek his counsel when they were struggling in international cricket. This led to Kapil Dev's remarks. In an interview with The Week, Kapil had said, "Sometimes, when too much money comes, arrogance comes. These cricketers, they feel they know everything."
In response of Kapil Dev's comments, the spinner stated, "I didn't know when he said this. I don't search too many things on social media. Everyone has their own opinion. It's nothing like that. Everybody is enjoying their game and working hard. Players are not taking their place in the team for granted. Whenever they are getting chances, they are giving their 100 percent and trying to win games for India."
"Such comments generally come when the Indian team lost a match. This is a good bunch of boys, this is a good group. We are representing India and that is our main aim, there is no personal agenda."
After losing to the West Indies in the second one-day international when Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma were rested and different lineups were tested, the Indian squad came under heavy fire. Many people believed that such tests were unnecessary right now because the ODI World Cup is only two months away. India will face the hosts West Indies in the third and final ODI on Tuesday.
