South Africa beat India by an innings and 32 runs

South Africa registers another victory at Centurion. The Proteas beat India by an innings and 32 runs. The hosts have lost just 3 matches at Centurion. The Proteas have dominated the Men in all departments. Rohit Sharma’s side was invited to bat first after the hosts won the toss and on a green wicket, the likes of Kagiso Rabada, Marco Jensen and Nandre Burger the Rainbow nation dominated throughout the game. India’s dream of winning a Test series on South African soil remains unfulfilled this year as well.

In the first innings, Rohit’s side posted 245 runs on the board, with KL Rahul playing a knock of 101 runs and was the lone batter of the Indian innings. No other batter except him was able to score a half-century on the green wicket. Rabada picked up his 14th 5-wicket haul in test match cricket and his first against the Men in Blue in the longest format of the game.

The Indian pacers looked helpless in front of the Proteas batting, Dean Elgar who scored a brilliant 185 runs in the first innings, he smashed 28 fours and got support from David Bedingham and Marco Jansen, both of them scored half-centuries, with Jensen staying unbeaten on 84 runs. With those runs, they scored a 408 and took a lead of 163 runs.

Kohli stands lone for India

Coming out to bat on Day 3 India’s second innings fell apart as the opener failed to have an impact and went back to the pavilion early, same as the first innings. Virat Kohli and Shubman Gill scored some runs but the latter was dismissed by a brilliant yorker from Jensen on 26 runs. The former India captain was the highest run scorer for the side in the second innings scoring 76 runs and was the last man to be dismissed. They were bowled out for 131 runs.

The second test will be played on Januray 3 at the Newlands Cricket Ground, Cape Town, the visitors will be hoping to win the 2nd Test and atleast draw the series.
