South Africa vs India 2nd Test match is scheduled on Wednesday, at Newlands Cricket Ground, Cape Town. Rohit Sharma's side are looking for a fight back after their poor loss in the first test by an innings and 32 runs. The Men in Blue's dream of winning the red-ball series in the Rainbow nation remains unfulfilled, but they will definitely try to spoil the party of the host in the 2nd and last test. The hosts dominated the Men in Blue in every aspect of the game.
Ahead of the 2nd Test, the skipper had a press conference where he answered cleverly about the questions asked by the reporters. He has been known for those when asked about Shubman Gill batting at No. 3 instead of his preferred opening position. The explosive opener was quick to clarify that he thinks batters make their own decisions about how to view particular spots in the batting order.
He even joked that ever since he began opening, the other positions have seemed incorrect to him. He added that the No. 3 batsman must come out early and essentially take on the same role as the opening batter in some circumstances, such as when the opener is injured or loses their wicket early.
Sometimes when the opener gets injured in the first innings: Rohit Sharma
Rohit said, "It is an individual thing as to how you think about certain batting positions. I personally hated batting at No. 3. That is my opinion on that. Either you open the batting or you wait and go a little down the order - No. 5 or 6."
"But since I have started opening the batting, from No. 3 onwards to No. 7, I do not think it is the right position for anyone. Sometimes when the opener gets injured in the first innings, the No. 3 has to walk out and open the batting. So, I do not see much difference there." Rohit needs to find back his form as he failed to have an impact in the longest format of the game.
