India suffered a heafty loss in the 1st Test match against South Africa by an innings and 32 runs. The Men in Blue side have been criticised heavily after their loss as they are yet to win a test series in the Rainbow nation. Virat Kohli and KL Rahul were the performers for the side in two different innings both had similar problems as they did not get enough support from the other end.

After the loss there were questiones about is franchise cricket hampering the longest format of the game. Former India pacer Venkatesh Prasad has come up with his opinion about the same when a user asked the question. As the Proteas have named just two players from the current test squad for the series against New Zealand because of the SA20, a T20 franchise cricket tournament in South Africa.

He believes the franchise cricket has created a definite impact in the last ten or so years, as many players have opted to play in the lucrative tournaments rather than represent their country. Players that are contracted to the national team occasionally do not think twice about skipping their team's match to participate in leagues like the Big Bash League or the Indian Premier League

Sad that it has reached this state: Venkatesh Prasad

The user asked, "What is your take on SA sending third grade teams to NZ tests? Have tests become luxury?" The former pacer replied, "Sets a very bad precedent. Sad that it has reached this state where Franchise cricket has surpassed Test cricket in priority. Hope this doesn't become the way forward."

Keegan Petersen and David Bedingham are the only players who were part of South Africa's innings win in the first Test against India will be playing against the Kiwis in their upcoming Test series as Neil Brand will be captaning the side for the very first time in the traditional format of the game.

The 2nd Test between South Africa and India will beging on January 3 at Cape Town. As the visitors will look for a comeback and atleast tie to the series.
