India is currently touring South Africa for an all-format tour they are going to play 3 T20Is, 2 Tests, and 3 ODIs. The tour had already begun with the T20I series. The first T20I was washed out due to rain in Kingsmead, Durban. The new string of the Men in Blue side is eager to make their way onto the field for the second T20I of the series at Gqeberha which was formerly known as Port Elizabeth.
There are high chances that the 2nd T20I will also be another washout with rain forecast at St. George’s Park on Tuesday afternoon. Suryakumar Yadav is leading the side as the senior players Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have been given rest. The side has a mix of both young guns and experienced candidates.
Team India has announced a 17-men squad for the shortest format of the game. As the T20 World Cup 2024 is nearly around the corner a lot of the selection of the side will be dependent on the upcoming white-ball series and the series against Afghanistan. The washout in the first T20I did not let the side get the best-playing XI.
Rain to play spoilsport?
As per the reports, the weather prediction for Gqeberha is cloudy with a high likelihood of rain, with approximately 70% chance of precipitation. The temperature at the venue is expected to be around 21 degrees Celsius, with humidity around 75% and a wind speed of around 35 kmph. In case the match gets washed out there will be a one-off match to be played but it will be a concern as the ODI series is also scheduled just a few days after the T20I series ends.
The teams have met 25 times in T20Is. While South Africa has won 10 matches, India has emerged victorious in 13 encounters, and two matches have ended in no result. The last five T20 contests have seen equal matches ups with the Proteas winning on two occasions and India on two.
