On Thursday, a host of current and former Indian cricketers, including captain Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, and legendary Sachin Tendulkar, lost their blue verification ticks on Twitter. The popular social media platform has been removing "legacy verified ticks" from accounts since Elon Musk took over the company last year.

The coveted blue checkmarks served as a mark of authenticity, confirming the identity of noted individuals, journalists, executives, politicians, and establishments. The platform has also introduced different colored checkmarks, such as gold for businesses and gray for government and multilateral organizations and officials. Additionally, Twitter now displays labels like "state-affiliated" and "automated by" against accounts to indicate when an account is linked to a government or is a bot.

Notably, Cristiano Ronaldo, one of the greatest footballers in the history of the game, also lost his verification tick on the platform. However, leading basketball star LeBron James still has his verification checkmark intact, indicating that he may have already subscribed to Twitter Blue.

The loss of the blue tick has sparked a flurry of reactions on social media, with fans expressing their surprise and disappointment. The cricketers themselves are yet to comment on the matter. It remains to be seen whether they will subscribe to Twitter Blue and regain their verification ticks or continue without them.
