The Indian cricket took a great initiative to present ‘Golden Tickets’ to prominent citizens of India for the ODI World Cup 2023. The first ticket was presented to renowned Bollywood actor Amitabh Bachchan by the board secretary Jay Shah. Former legendary Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar received the second Golden Ticket. Before the important world event, the Indian Cricket Board is anticipated to award the Golden Ticket to a few more elite athletes.

Meanwhile, former cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar has stepped into the cricketing spotlight, this time as a pivotal voice for a few recommendations of the ‘Golden Ticket’ recipients for the ODI World Cup 2023. In a recent development, Gavaskar suggested a list of names to the Indian cricket board, suggesting potential 'Golden Ticket' recipients for the highly anticipated tournament.

"The decision by the Indian Cricket Board secretary Jay Shah to honour persons who have done yeoman service in their respective fields is a terrific one. As of writing, the one and only Amitabh Bachchan and Sachin Tendulkar have been given a golden ticket to witness the World Cup matches," Gavaskar was quoted as saying by NDTV Sports.

It can't be given to everybody who has played for India: Sunil Gavaskar

Gavaskar suggested an interesting and deserving name of ISRO chief S. Somanath who recently led his team in the successful landing of Chandrayaan 3 on the moon. Apart from him, he suggested the names of former cricket legends Kapil Dev and MS Dhoni. He also suggested India’s golden boy Neeraj Chopra who has been reaching multiple milestones in the field of Javelin Throw.

"It is not known how many others are on the list, but hopefully, the chief of ISRO, under whom India landed on the moon, will be one. Obviously, it can't be given to everybody who has played for India, but if the associations where the matches are being played are instructed to invite the Indian players from their city to the games in that city, it would be a magnificent gesture. Of course, two others who deserve the golden ticket are the two World Cup-winning captains, Kapil Dev and Mahendra Singh Dhoni. Neeraj Chopra, the Olympic and World Athletics Championship gold medallist, is another one who comes to mind for the golden ticket." he added.
