David Warner, the opening batter for Australia, made a retirement remark, indicating that this would probably be the final year of his international career before travelling to India for the coveted Border-Gavaskar series. Now, a report from AAP has revealed that Warner has indeed started plans of retiring from the longest format of the game. In fact, he has also set a date – after the conclusion of the home summer.

Warner predicted that this would be his final year playing for his country in international cricket but stated that the 2024 T20 World Cup was his first priority. " most likely be my last year of my international career. I've got my sights set on the 2024 World Cup as well, so finishing in the Americas, that'd be nice to top it off with a win over there, pending selection,” said Warner.

David Warner recently lashed out at CA for mismanagement regarding his lifetime captaincy ban row

Since making his debut in a T20I match against South Africa in 2009, Warner has amassed over 17,000 runs across all forms, including 8,158 in Test cricket. In his 100th Test match, the 36-year-old broke his Test century drought by slamming a double century against South Africa.

Recently, David Warner expressed his displeasure over Cricket Australia’s mismanagement of his appeal to lift his lifetime captaincy ban. “It was ridiculous. “I wanted to put it to bed and they kept on just dragging it out and not giving answers. No one wanted to be accountable, no one wanted to make a decision. You have an administration where there seemed to be a lack of leadership. They could have nipped it in the bud straight away, but I’m getting a phone call day one, two, three of the Test matches and speaking to lawyers etc when I didn’t need to. So from that perspective, it wasn’t even like, ‘Oh, let’s stop and we’ll come back to this.’ It was nine months, it was launched in February (2022). I was extremely disappointed I actually felt disrespected in the way that I wasn’t able to actually have a clear mind to play the game and concentrate on the game,” he said.
