Dambulla Aura won the match against Colombo Strikers comfortably by 50 runs in the second leg of the Lanka Premier League 2023. Opting to bat first on a dry surface in Colombo, Dambulla Aura was in trouble straight away. After 6.5 overs, Aura was reduced to 46/4 by the Strikers. Avishka Fernando, Kusal Mendis, Sadeera Samarawickrama, and Dhananjaya De Silva were sent back to the pavilion.

That is when Alex Ross joined Ben McDermott and changed the game completely. The two Australian batters scored runs at a brisk rate and upped the ante for Aura. Ross scored 52 runs in 38 balls and was undone by Matheesha Pathirana. McDermott continued and scored an unbeaten 69*(46) on a slow wicket, which included 4 fours and sixes each.

The Strikers bowlers had no clue what struck them. McDermott played a great innings and helped the Yellow Brigade to score 166 runs in their 50 overs, which was a lot on Colombo's wicket. Chasing the target, the Strikers were never really in the game. The strikers lost wickets one after the other and handed over the match to Dambulla, who won it comfortably by 50 runs towards the end.

'Babar Azam is our King' - Hasan Ali

In the match, the Pakistani bowler Hasan Ali dismissed the Pakistani captain Babar Azam. The 29-year-old had a great match with the ball. In his 4 overs, Ali conceded only 16 runs and claimed 3 scalps, including that of Azam. A complete team performance from Dambulla helped them to win the match in the end and top the table. In 4 matches in the tournament so far, Hasan has 7 wickets to his name.

Hasan Ali, who is known for his unique celebration, did not celebrate the big wicket of Babar. When asked about the same, Ali said that he would not celebrate the wicket of his captain. “Babar Azam is our King, and he is my skipper. So, there is always an element of respect. Hence, I did not celebrate his wicket” said the winner of the 2017 Champions Trophy.
