Australia's tour of India for a Test and ODI series ended on March 22. After suffering a 1-2 loss in the Test series, the Kangaroos bounced back brilliantly in the ODI series as they defeated the Indian side 2-1.

The visitors won the decider ODI by 21 runs. With this win, they also became the no.1 ODI-ranked team in the world. Meanwhile, former Indian skipper Sunil Gavaskar said that the Men In Blue were batting very slowly and failed to rotate the strike regularly. He also mentioned that they might forget this loss as their concentration will be on the Indian T20 League 2023.

“It was the pressure created. They were not getting singles. The boundaries had dried up and they weren't even getting singles. When that happens then you try and play something that you are not used to. That is something they will have to look at. But of course, now the Indian T20 League starts. This shouldn't be forgotten. India sometimes makes the mistake of forgetting this, but this one shouldn't be because, in the World Cup, we may face Australia again,” said Gavaskar on Star Sports.

Fielding from Australia was outstanding: Sunil Gavaskar

The 1983 World Cup winners added that the Indian batters were put under a lot of pressure because of Australia’s brilliant fielding display and that was the difference between the two teams. This was also India’s first ODI series loss at home since March 2019. With the 50-over World Cup to be held this year, the Men in Blue will look to get back on track as soon as possible.

“When you are chasing a score of 270 or nearly 300, you need a partnership of about 90 or 100 and that will take you close. But that didn't happen. Yes, there were a couple of partnerships, one between Rahul and Kohli, but then you wanted another similar or bigger stand. Fielding from Australia was outstanding. Their bowling was very good. It was tight, stump to stump, but their fielding was very good. That was the difference,” said Gavaskar.
