In the first test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy India beat Australia by innings and 132 runs at Vidarbha Cricket Stadium, Nagpur. Rohit Sharma-led team India outplayed the Aussies in just three days as the visitors got bowled on 91 in just a session. India on day 3 started where they left off on Day 2, as Ravindra Jadeja and Axar Patel resumed their attacking batting. However, both failed to convert their fifties into a much-deserved hundred.

Australia after winning the toss chose to bat first and failed to assess the pitch. Playing with four bowlers and out of form batting lineup hurt the visitors as they were restricted to a below-par score of 177 runs in the first innings. Allrounder Ravindra Jadeja took five wickets for India and helped the hosts to bundle out visitors on the day-1 itself. The young and inexperienced bowling also let them down as India hammered 400 runs in the first innings to take a hefty lead of 223 runs in the first innings.

India Captain Rohit Sharma, along with allrounders Ravindra Jadeja and Axar Patel helped India to post a mammoth total. Rohit scored his 9th century while Jadeja and Axar posted well-made half-centuries. Coming out to bat in the second innings Australia were never in the game. Ravichandran Ashwin gave the Aussies an early shock as opener Usman Khwaja departed in the second over of the innings. After that Australia faltered under pressure and never came back into the game.

Twitter reacts to an Australian batting collapse

The spin trio of the Indian team bundled Australia on 91 runs in the second innings. It was Australia’s second-lowest score against India and lowest against India in India. The previous lowest was 93 runs in 2003-04 at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai and the lowest score of Australia against India is 83 runs which came in 1981 at Melbourne Cricket Ground.

Fans on social media reacted to the batting collapse of the Australian team and took a dig at Australia’s special preparations with Mahesh Pithiya before Nagpur Test. Posting Pithiya’s picture a user wrote, “Trust me bro I bowl like Ashwin.”

Very poor preparation. But hey great selection on Murphy.

Yes, if Warner was caught out by Virat at 2, then 83 would have remained equal to the lowest total. 😬🇮🇳vs🇦🇺
