Rohit Sharma has been one of the finest openers of this generation. The team India captain led the side, to the first final in the ODI World Cup after 12 years eventually losing to Australia. Rohit led the side from the front in the mega event giving the side explosive starts from the top of the order. The opener also became the second skipper to draw a series against South Africa on their soil after MS Dhoni.

There were speculations of whether the batter will be participating in the T20 World Cup 2024, but now that he is leading the side in the Afghanistan T20I series he will also be there in the mega event later this year. Former England spinner Monty Panesar, dropped shocking comments about the veteran batter, as the spinner compared him with the Australian great Sir Donald Bradman, while highlighting Rohit’s exceptional batting skills.

Panesar's comments come right ahead of the England Test series, as the three lions are touring India for a 5-match Test match series that is scheduled on January 25 at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. Rohit's red-ball form outside the sub-continent has been hot and cold.

Rohit Sharma is going to be the most important batter for the home team: Monty Panesar

Panesar told Hindustan Times, "Indian batters play attacking cricket against spinners. Rohit Sharma is going to be the most important batter for the home team. He is the Don Bradman on spinning tracks. England will have to dismiss him early in the innings to stand any chance of winning the Test series in India. If England can keep Rohit quiet, India will shift to Plan B, which is going to be good for England. They can put the young Indian batters under pressure."

The 36-year-old batter has been a top performer in the sub-continent for the Test squad in recent years. He has scored 3737 runs at an average of 45.57 from 54 Test matches. He has hit 10 centuries and 16 half-centuries.
