Rishabh Pant is to be used as an impact player

Rishabh Pant has been out of action for almost a year after he suffered a fatal accident last December while travelling back home. Pant had a stitch in his head and was out of any cricketing action since then. He has rehabbing at the National Cricket Academy (NCA), Bengaluru. Pant has been seen batting in the nets as well and has played one charity match but he struggled while running between the wickets.

Ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 auction Pant has been retained by his franchise Delhi Capitals (DC). Their Director of Cricket and former India captain Sourav Ganguly previously stated that the wicket-keeper batter will be participating in the toughest franchise league of the world and the former skipper also said that he will be leading the side in the upcoming edition as well. 

But as per the recent developments, the 26-year-old batter will be playing as the impact player in the tournament. As per the impact player rule, any team during the match can substitute a player from the playing XI from anyone out of five substitutes named along with the starting eleven during the toss.

Rishabh Pant will be playing IPL 2024

He was present in the pre-season camps organised by Ganguly in Kolkata but was not practising with the team. Previously Ganguly said, "He’s (Pant) good now. He will play in the IPL next season. Rishabh won’t be practising here though. There’s still time for him to get down to practice. By January (2024), he’ll get even better." 

Ahead of next month’s IPL auction in Dubai, they have a purse of INR 28.95 crore. They have nine slots remaining in the team, five of them are overseas. They have released some big names like Rovman Powell, Rilee Rossouw, Manish Pandey, Sarfaraz Khan, Phil Salt, and Mustafizur Rahman in the retention window time.
