Finally, after suffering four back-to-back matches in the series, the Pakistan team found a happy moment on the tour as they defeated New Zealand by 42 runs at Christchurch on January 21. With this win the visitors have also avoided the whitewash and settled for a score line of 1-4 in the series of five matches. This win from Pakistan also marks the first victory of the team under Shaheen Shah Afridi’s captaincy.

In the earlier part of the match, Pakistan set a competitive total of 134 runs in their allotted 20 overs. The star of the show for Pakistan with bat was Mohammad Rizwan contributing a run-a-ball 38, and Fakhar Zaman's aggressive 33 off just 16 balls. Apart from that, all the other Pakistan batters struggled on the tired Christchurch pitch.

For New Zealand, their bowlers bowled in the right areas and hit the right line as well as length. Tim Southee, Matt Henry, Lockie Ferguson, and Ish Sodhi each secured 2 wickets, displaying economical bowling performances. Skipper Mitchell Santner remained wicketless, conceding 30 runs in his 4 overs.

Iftikhar Ahmed starred with bowling with three wickets

In pursuit of the target, New Zealand's batters struggled to find their footing, consistently losing wickets. Iftikhar Ahmed shone with the ball for Pakistan, claiming 3 wickets and conceding only 24 runs in his 4 overs. His exceptional bowling performance earned him the Player of the Match award.

In addition to Iftikhar, Mohammad Nawaz and captain Shaheen Afridi delivered exceptional performances with the ball, each securing 2 wickets for the team. The combined outstanding bowling effort by the Pakistani team prevented a whitewash as they secured a much-needed victory in the final match of the series. Nevertheless, New Zealand claimed the series 4-1, and Finn Allen was awarded the Player of the Series for his exceptional batting performances throughout the series.
