Mumbai Indians (MI) and Gujarat Titans (GT) clashed against each other in the second qualifier of the Indian Premier League 2023 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Friday, May 26. GT stormed into the second consecutive IPL final by defeating the five-time champions by 62 runs.

Talking about the match, MI skipper Rohit Sharma opted to field hoping to make use of the conditions early on, but GT's openers Shubman Gill and Wriddhiman Saha stitched a fifty partnership in the powerplay. However, MI suffered a huge blow when Gill was dropped by Tim David when he was on just 30 runs it was a big moment in the final over of the powerplay and that turned out to be a very costly drop.Β

The 23-year-old, after notching up his fifty, switched gears and MI had no idea how to deal with that assault. Gill tore apart the MI bowlers and notched up a magnificent century which was his third in four matches. He scored 129 runs off just 60 balls, which included 7 fours and 10 sixes. Akash Madhwal, who bagged the Player of the Match in his last outing, was taken to the cleaners by Gill. He eventually removed the centurion but ended up conceding more than 50 runs and GT put up a monumental total of 233 runs.

A brilliant all-round performance by GT

Chasing the target, MI started with a different opening pair as Ishan Kishan injured his eye during the first innings due to which Nehal Wadhera opened with skipper Rohit. However, that didn't work for them as Wadhera departed in the very first over after scoring just 4 runs. Rohit continued his poor form and departed in the 3rd over. However, Tilak Varma displayed some cracking shots but was dismissed on the last ball of the powerplay after smashing 43 runs off just 14 balls.

MI then found their best phase with Cameron Green and Suryakumar Yadav, stitching a nice partnership, but then Josh Little knocked down the big Australian allrounder. From there, the innings went downhill, and although SKY threatened to take the game away once again, he couldn't do everything. Suryakumar was dismissed shortly after his 50, as Mohit Sharma struck in his first over, he continued his brilliance and picked up a fifer while conceding only 10 runs in 2 overs.
