The 2nd day of the 1st Test Match of Ashes 2023 saw a brilliant fightback from the Australian batters. The English bowlers were clueless in front of the Kangaroos, especially, Usman Khawaja, who smashed an impressive century and took the Australian team from a dangerous situation.

This was also his first Test hundred in England and overall 15th hundred in the longest format. Meanwhile, Khawaja made headlines when he brought his daughter to the post-day conference which caught the attention of many fans on social media. He also revealed what was going on in his head while he was batting and said that this could be his last time playing in the Ashes unless he keeps playing like James Anderson.

“These young ones keep me young and make me realise that there’s a lot to life and a lot of good stuff after I stop playing cricket. So for me, it’s just about enjoying it. My wife has been awesome to me, she’s been my rock throughout my career,” said Khawaja.

He then added, “That perspective makes it a lot easier for me to go out there and just enjoy it as much as I can, whether I get a duck or a hundred. Every Test match is a bonus for me because we thought my career was over. In my head, it’s the last (Ashes) tour I’ll be on unless I pull a Jimmy Anderson and come back when I’m 41.” Khwaja was quoted as saying by India Today.

I genuinely do not read the media: Usman Khawaja

Khawaja also talked about the wild celebration he did after smashing the century. He said that it was a combination of three Ashes tours where he was dropped in 2 of them. Khawaja said that he doesn’t read the news in the media.

“I think it was a combination of three Ashes tours in England and being dropped in two of them. I don’t read the media, I genuinely do not read the media but when I’m getting sprayed by the crowd as I’m walking out there today and as I’m going to nets that I can’t score runs in England, I guess it was just a bit more emotional than normal," Khawaja said.
