India’s young opening batter Shubman Gill is in tremendous form this year irrespective of all formats. Gill has smashed 5 international centuries this year till now and with more cricket action to come up this year, it is believed that Gill can shatter some records by scoring more runs. He continued his brilliance in the recently concluded Indian Premier League 2023 where he smashed 3 centuries and won the orange cap.
Despite being just 23 years old Gill is often compared with the modern-day great Virat Kohli. Meanwhile, former Indian cricketer Mohammed Kaif made a huge remark and said that the young batter continues to make significant advancements in the game and is more comparable to the former legendary Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar than Kohli. He also recalled the time when Kohli was having hard time in 2014 against England and said that he has some weakness.
“Sachin was also a very organized batter. If I compare Sachin and Virat, the latter still has some weaknesses. He was out of form when he went to England (in 2014). James Anderson troubled him a lot outside the off stump and he had no answers to it. He was a total flop in that series," said Kaif.
Gill is on the path to becoming great like Sachin: Mohammed Kaif
Kaif further added and said that Kohli still has some weakness but he didn’t see any weakness in Gill. He said that it is very hard to get his wicket at this stage of his career. He said that Gill is on a path to becoming a great cricketer like Sachin because of his technique and mental strength.
“I feel Gill’s technique is similar to Tendulkar. It is very difficult to get him out at this point in time. There seems to be no weakness in his game. Virat and Sachin both are legends. I have played with both, but Kohli has his weaknesses. Gill is on the path of becoming great like Sachin when it comes to technique and mental strength,” Kaif added.
