Melbourne Strikers' brilliant start to the tournament

On December 14, 2022 (Wednesday), at the Adelaide Oval in Adelaide, the Strikers and the Sixers squared off in the second game of the Big Bash League 2022 season. After winning the toss, Strikers skipper Peter Siddle opted to bat first. Opener Jake Weatherald got out early in the first over. But Matt Short and Chris Lynn took over the responsibility and gave a brilliant start to the team.

Short played a marvelous knock of 84 runs off 53 balls, including 11 fours and 2 sixes. Lynn scored 41 runs off 34 deliveries, smashing 3 fours and 2 sixes. Hose came out at no.4 after Lynn departed in the 12th over of the match. Hose continued the acceleration and started smashing the ball over boundaries as he scored 40 runs off just 22 balls including 3 fours and 2 sixes. Strikers ended up on 184 runs after losing 6 wickets in 20 overs.

Chasing the target of 184, Sixers’ batters never looked in rhythm as they kept losing wickets at regular intervals of time. Moises Henriques and Jordan Silk tried hard but spinner Rashid Khan dismissed both of them and sealed the victory for the Strikers by 51 runs. Other than Rashid, Henry Thornton picked up 4 wickets and conceded only 20 runs in his 4 overs quota.

The BBL action will continue as Brisbane Heat and Melbourne Renegades lock horns on December 15, Thursday in the third match of the tournament.
